overview

i have been obsessed with writing since an 8th grade english teacher encouraged me to write poetry and keep a journal. i did both on and off until graduating from high school.

i went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from truman state university and honed my skills as a columnist and news writer for the campus newspaper. i also have a master’s in religion from cincinnati christian university.

writing has been the central focus of my professional life: advertising, public relations, marketing and ministry. over the years i have written such things as news stories, features, advertising copy, speeches, poetry, blogs, devotions, sermons and theology.

my favorite professional position? speech-writer for the president and ceo of one of the largest health care organizations in the united states.

my hands-down favorite author? john steinbeck. i have also long mourned the fact that harper lee only wrote one book.

my secret power? my wife, who has been my encourager and editor for 40+ years.

overview

my interest in photography began as a young father determined to capture my children’s lives in both 35mm and video.

my “interest” became an obsession in fall 2020 using an android smart phone. in the blink of an eye my daily mission was to visually capture the beauty, pain, hope and regrets of everyday life, especially in rural missouri.

a year later i acquired a new toy: a canon rebel sl3 with multiple lenses and lots of buttons inviting experimentation. the improvement in image clarity and creative options took my breath away and made my head hurt, both in a good way.

overnight i became a professional amateur photographer. but the obsession intensified yet again when i began unleashing the creative powers of photo editors via instagram and amazon. it was then that i began to feel like an artist without a brush.
